Naija developer Fagbuaro don build AI system wey go dey catch drivers wey dey lose focus on top steering.

Boluwaji Fagbuaro, one Naija AI and Machine Learning developer, talk say e don build artificial intelligence (AI) system wey dey catch drivers wey dey lose focus on top steering. E use data wey e gather from Naija roads train am, and e wan make dem adapt the system for moto wey dem build or couple inside Nigeria.

E explain say e gather like 48 hours of driving data from Naija drivers to train di AI. Di system fit detect when driver dey chop or drink water on top steering, and e go alert the driver sharp-sharp. Fagbuaro argue say foreign driver-monitoring systems no too fit work for us because of local conditions like lighting, skin color, and how dem position the camera fit affect how di system dey read driver behavior.

E say his main question na: "How driver-monitoring system go be if na purely for Naija drivers and conditions dem build am?" Na dis question born the project. For future, e plan to turn am to driver-coaching platform wey go dey generate weekly reports to show if driver habit dey improve or worsen. But e never confirm if this particular feature don start to work. E also talk say vehicle manufacturers fit eventually use the system, wey understand local drivers, to develop safety tech.

Technext never independently verify how di system active reach, and Fagbuaro never drop accuracy figures or call any manufacturer, fleet operator, or ride-hailing company wey dey currently test am.

Why driver distraction matter for Naija roads?
Our roads still deadly well-well. FRSC record 10,446 road crashes and 5,289 deaths across di country in 2025 alone. Though deaths drop by 2.4%, crashes go up by 9.2% compared to 2024. FRSC don already carry the matter of distracted driving put for head, as Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed launch their 2025 Ember months campaign urging motorists to stop distracted driving. Even though over-speeding na still the number one cause of accidents (41% in December 2025), distraction na big wahala, just say dem never get exact figures of crashes caused by am.

However, Fagbuaro never talk say his new AI system get any connection with these companies or say na specifically for ride-hailing drivers e build am.
